Hi, I’m Mads!
I’ve worn many hats and worked in several different fields before finding my love for handy work, woodworking, and D.I.Y. projects in 2019.
I established Handy Dandy Home Services in 2021 to offer handy work services to my Philadelphia queer(+) community. I believe everyone deserves access to home services and to feel safe and respected in their homes, no matter what.
As a home improvement contractor, I offer I different type of “contractor” business model and client relationship. I’m an all-in-one//one-man shop, I tackle small + medium sized home improvement projects. No job is too small!
Read more about me here:
Born + raised in California, I studied Medieval History at Seattle University and worked with the local Holocaust Educational Center. After interning at the National Holocaust Museum, I moved to Boston to pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology.
During my “quarter-life crisis,” I realized academia was no longer my passion, I felt cramped behind a desk (& TBH could not will myself to write another essay). I left with my Masters and no regrets.
After a few misadventures in non-profit, corporate, and private industry 2020 happened and changed everything. I started my adventures with DIY creations + handy work with thrifted furniture flips, wood crafts, & small home projects for my community.
Moving to Philly 2021 I worked independently and for a local family-owned home renovation company where I learned on-the-job everyday with a handful of incredible lesbian + queer trades women.
In the spring of 2022 I became fully independent with Handy Dandy Home Services. Running my own business is a process of constant growth, shifting, and change; I promise to my community and clients that no matter what I will continually strive to offer respectful, reliable, home services and support.
